Free Live Training

Training is conducted every week via web-conferencing. The training uses a hands-on format so you will get plenty of opportunity for practice. Each session is only 2 hrs long so you can squeeze them into your busy day.  Fundamentals One and Two are repeated each month, so you don't need to sign up for Fundamentals One twice.

SmartBuilder Fundamentals One

This session covers the very basics of SmartBuilder.  If you haven't used SmartBuilder at all, this is the place to start.

Topics:
- Workflow overview
- Laying out objects
- Creating basic actions
- Adding and editing pages
- Creating master pages
- Using templates

Can't make this session?  You can follow along with these videos to get the same information:

  - Adding and configuring objects
  - Creating basic interactivity
  - Creating a Master Page

SmartBuilder Fundamentals Two

Please see the topics above and make sure that you are familiar with them before signing up for this session.

Topics:
- Grouping objects using display sets
- Creating basic quizzes
- Creating conditional actions

Can't make this session?  You can follow along with these videos to get the same information:

  - Grouping objects using a display
  - Using multiple display sets
  - Creating conditional actions
  - Creating a branching scenario using the flow chart
  - Creating a quiz

SmartBuilder Advanced Topics

We move a lot quicker in the Advanced sessions.  Please make sure that you are comfortable with the topics covered in the Fundamental classes above.

Advanced actions and variables

In this session we'll create actions that allow objects to pass information between one another.  We'll also look at the different types of variables, Text, Number, and True/False, and create interactions with each of them.

Can't make this session?  You can follow along with these videos to get the same information:

  - Using dynamic values
  - Using variables

Creating branching interactions using the Flow Chart

In this session we'll create a branching scenario, a simple quiz and customize a more complex quiz template.

Can't make this session?  You can follow along with these videos to get the same information:

  - Creating conditional actions
  - Creating a branching scenario using the flow chart
  - Creating a quiz

Creating Quizzes

In this session we'll be creating quizzes from scratch and looking at more advanced functionality.

Creating drag-and-drop interactions and timed presentations using the timeline

In this session we'll create a Drag and Drop exercise, then enhance it to make it more challenging.  We'll also create a timeline to display information in a timed, animated fashion.

Can't make this session?  You can follow along with these videos to get the same information:

  - Creating a timeline
  - Creating a basic drag and drop
  - Adding gaming elements to a drag and drop
  - Making a delayed feedback drag and drop

Creating global events to communicate between the Master Page and regular pages

In this session we'll look at creating Global Events - a method of communicating between the Master Page and a regular page.  Examples of when this would be useful are when you want to disable navigation buttons on particular pages, or create a global pause button.

Can't make this session?  You can follow along with these videos to get the same information:

  - Global Events - Play and Pause buttons (Master Page to Regular Page)
  - Global Events - Disabling and enabling buttons (Regular Pages to Master Page) - coming soon!

Creating and using regular and linked templates

In this session we'll create our own Templates, and discuss the features of applying a regular Template versus a Linked Template.

SCORM calls

In this session we'll look at some of the most common SCORM calls, as well as a few that you might never have thought about!

Can't make this session?  You can follow along with these videos to get the same information:

  - SCORM Overview
  - SCORM Completion and Success Status
  - SCORM Score
  - SCORM Bookmarks
  - SCORM 2004 Interactions
  - SCORM 1.2 Interactions
  - SCORM Objectives

Ideation and Prototyping

This is like free consulting! If you have a rough idea for an exercise or interaction, we will show you the best way to implement it in SmartBuilder. Or, if you have an existing lesson, we can critique its design and suggest better ways to implement it in SmartBuilder.

HTML5 Conversion

Learn how to convert SmartBuilder lessons into HTML5 format.  We'll be walking through how it is done, and what changes need to be made to your lesson in order to make it work (HTML5 does not yet have all the same features that the Flash format supports).
