The Design Panels

design panels

The Design panels are in the area on the right side of the stage, and consist of the Cast, Properties, and Templates panels.

The Cast Panel

cast

The Cast provides a hierarchical display of all the objects on a page while highlighting the currently selected object.  Whatever object is selected on the page will be highlighted in the Cast, and vice-versa.  The Cast can be used to select objects, show and hide objects, lock objects, and adjust object layering.

User tip: Double-click the blue Cast title bar to quickly re-size the Cast.

Expand and collapse sets and subsets

  1. Open the Cast.
  2. Click the Expand expand icon next to the set you want to expand.
  3. Click the Expand expand icon next to the subset you want to expand.
  4. Click the Collapse collapse icon next to the subset you want to collapse.
  5. Click the Collapse collapse icon next to the set you want to collapse.

Lock objects

lock
  1. Open the Cast.
  2. Click on the Lock check box next to the object you want to lock.

Note: If the check box is checked, the object is locked.

Lock All Objects

lock all
  1. Open the Cast.
  2. Click in the Lock all check box located below the Lock label in the Cast header bar.

Note: If the check box is checked, all objects will be locked, but each can be individually unlocked by unchecking its lock check box.

Object Layering

Every object is on a separate layer.  The higher an object is in the Cast, the higher its layer on the page.  Objects on higher layers will obscure lower objects when they overlap.

Show and Hide objects

  1. Open the Cast.
  2. Click the Hide check box next to the object you want to show or hide.

Note: If the check box is checked, the object is hidden.

Hide All Objects
  1. Open the Cast.
  2. Click in the Hide all hide all check box located below the Hide label in the Cast header bar.

Note: If the check box is checked, all objects will be hidden, but each can be individually shown by unchecking its hide check box.

The Properties Panel

The Properties panel displays the properties of the currently selected object for viewing and editing.  It is also where advanced object functions such as media selection, or transitions are accessed.

The properties of an object will vary depending on the object type.  See the section on Objects, and the page on Common Properties.

User tip: Double-click the blue Properties panel title bar quickly re-size it.

The Templates Panel

The Templates panel allows you to quickly apply, remove, and refresh existing templates on your lesson page.
